Develop Custom Appliance Products With Chinese Manufacturing Support
You already have the product in mind and the part that is missing is the factory that can actually build it. This route covers the work from a first conversation to an approved sample: specification, structure, function, tooling and the production schedule behind it.
Who this route is for
This route assumes the product is not on a catalogue yet, or exists but does not match what you want to sell. The question we answer first is whether a supplier’s existing platform can realistically run your specification.
-
1
Appliance brands extending a range
A brand that wants a new series, a different capacity, or a finish and function the current line does not cover. The starting point may be a sketch, a competitor unit taken apart, or a written specification.
-
2
Product developers and new entrants
A defined idea and no supply chain. The scope starts with whether the idea can be produced at the cost and quality the market expects, before any tooling is committed.
-
3
Established importers re-specifying
An importer whose current product has to change: different voltage or plug, a new safety feature, a revised housing, a redesigned control panel. The existing unit is a starting point, not the target.
What we work through
Five stages. The order is not fixed: a first sample sometimes happens before the drawing does, and a supplier shortlist usually happens before either.
-
1
Concept discussion
What the product has to do, for which market, at what price bracket. We say early when the concept cannot be met by an existing platform, because that is far cheaper to find out now than after tooling.
-
2
Product specification
Written down, agreed, and versioned: electrical requirement, performance target, materials, dimensions, tolerances, and the certification the destination market imposes on each of them.
-
3
Design and structure adjustment
Where the specification pushes against an existing platform, the change is made in the structure or the function rather than in the marketing description: housing, mounting points, control layout, thermal behaviour, assembly sequence.
-
4
Prototype and sample support
Sample rounds run until the unit behaves the way the specification says. Each round is recorded, so the approval that precedes tooling is the same approval a later batch is measured against.
-
5
Manufacturing coordination
Once a sample is approved, the same specification and quality gates carry into production, with one owner on our side answering for the supplier.
What we need from you, and what you get
Three inputs are enough to tell you whether this route is realistic and what it will take.
- What to send
- A concept, a target specification, a reference product to beat, a target price band, and the destination market.
- What you get back
- A shortlist of suppliers whose current platform covers the brief, a written specification, and an honest view on which parts of it will cost time and money.
- Open items
- Tooling cost, tooling lead time and programme length [TBD]. These are quoted per project, not per site.
Before you start this route
If the product already exists, is certified, and all you need is your logo, packaging and manuals on it, this route is heavier than necessary. That is private label branding, and it starts from an existing product rather than a drawing. If the specification is still being decided, bulk purchasing is not it either.
