OEM or private label: which route fits your order
These are two different jobs, and they are usually mixed up. One starts from a product that does not exist yet; the other starts from a product that already exists and needs your name on it. The difference is decided by one question, answered below.
The question that decides it
Not “do I want my own brand” — both routes can carry your brand. The question is whether the unit itself has to change.
If you can answer “yes, this product already exists and I want it under my brand”, that is private label. If you have to answer “no, this product does not exist yet, or it exists but not the way I want it”, that is OEM product development.
The two routes side by side
Same supplier network, same verification standard, different starting point and different work.
| OEM product development | Private label branding | |
|---|---|---|
| Starting point | A product concept or a specification that has to change | An existing product you have chosen to sell |
| Where the product is | From 0 to 1 | Already in production |
| What the work touches | Design, structure, function, tooling, samples | Logo, packaging, user manual, product labelling |
| The question it answers | Can you help me build this product? | Can I get this to market under my own brand? |
| Typical customer | Appliance brands, product developers, established importers | Ecommerce sellers, retailers, distributors |
| Verification | The same supplier qualification and QA standard applies to both routes. | |
| Open items | Tooling cost and programme length [TBD] | Carton and artwork constraints per product [TBD] |
Go to the route
Each page covers what the route involves, who it suits, and what we need from you to price and schedule it.
-
1
OEM product development
Concept discussion, product specification, design and structure adjustment, prototype support, then manufacturing coordination once a sample is approved.
-
2
Private label branding
Logo printing and placement, custom packaging, user manuals and language versions, product labelling — no tooling, no development cycle.
-

Neither one exactly
That is normal. Describe the order on WhatsApp and the route gets named before any quotation is prepared.
